After months of speculations, it's been finally confirmed that Bryan Singer will be helming the upcoming "X-Men" flick.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "X-Men: Days of Future Past" director will be back in the driver's seat for "X-Men: Apocalypse."

The uncertainty of his involvement was reportedly due to "allegations of sex abuse filed just weeks before 'Days of Future Past's' opening" in May this year.

"In June, 20th Century Fox production president Emma Watts told THR that she wanted Singer back for the sequel, despite the scandal," the news source said.

"Nothing would make me happier than if it all worked out. It's always been the intention for him to do it," Watts explained.

"This will be Singer's fourth installment as director; he hatched the franchise with the first two films for Fox, and came back to direct this year's 'X-Men: Days Of Future Past,'" Deadline noted. "That latter film, which meshed the original trilogy cast with the one from 'X-Men: First Class,' grossed $746 million worldwide, the most of any of the films."

The upcoming installment's scriptwriting duties have been given to Simon Kinberg, who will base it from the story written by Singer, as well as Kinberg, Michael Dougherty, and Dan Harris.

James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, and Nicholas Hoult are said to be returning in "Apocalypse." Hugh Jackman has been rumored to be reprising his role, as well as the rest of the cast in "First: Class."

"Younger versions of Storm, Jean Grey and Cyclops will appear in 'Apocalypse,' which will be set in an alternative timeline from the movies we've already seen," MTV noted.

Meanwhile, scriptwriter Kinberg had shared some details about the sequel's story, insinuating the possibility that "Apocalypse" may be even bigger than "Days of Future Past."

"We want to tell the 'Apocalypse' story and there's massive scale and scope to telling that story," he began, in an interview with SuperHeroHype. "There's going to be set pieces that I suspect are going to be bigger than anything we've ever done in an 'X-Men' movie before and he's a great character.

"The biggest and funnest challenge of the Apocalypse movie to me is his character," he continued. "How do you create a new villain for the 'X-Men' world that is as good as any villain that's come before, is compelling philosophically as Magneto, not just in his physical powers, but in his philosophical depth. 'Apocalypse' is going to be a fun movie to write and make."

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will drop in theaters on May 27, 2016.
