It's only about two weeks before the premiere of "Scandal" Season 4, and yet, no details have been released regarding its first episode, except for the title, but nobody knows what "Randy, Red, Superfreak, and Julia" means, either.
The official synopsis, as printed on Cartermatt.com says, "Nearly two months after Olivia and Jake boarded a private jet to stand in the sun together, everything has changed. With another four years in the White House, Fitz and Cyrus are doing everything they can to make a positive impact on the nation. Meanwhile, Mellie struggles to cope with the loss of her son and the gladiators feel the impact of Olivia's absence."
But the website is quick to point out the obvious: the synopsis basically covered everything logical that should happen after last season's finale.
But here are other things to remember about "Scandal":
Shonda Rhimes has been picky about the show's releases and invoked a no-spoilers policy, which is why, until now, there are no updates on the roles of the guest stars.
But in the short trailer released Monday, Olivia and Fitz still had their unresolved issues, because Olivia does not pick up when he calls her house, because of course she's on the beach sipping wine.
That's to say, she's not back in DC as she should be.
And for those still trying to make sense of Harrison's death, Rhimes told The Hollywood Reporter that "His absence will be explained definitively. What you think happened to his character happened to his character."
"It will be very devastating for Abby in a surprising way. You'll see how she's coping with it in a very different way than you would expect," she added.
TV Guide has revealed, however, that "regardless of how Olivia comes back into the fold, it will actually be the year of Abby, as we'll finally get to discover more of her backstory."
Rhimes told the website in an interview, "One of the things that we did specifically when we created the show is slowly deploy people's stories. It was purposeful. Season 4 is Abby's season. That was by design. A lot of what we know about Abby happens this season. A lot of what we discover about her and see about her back story will happen as we tell Abby's story,"
Scandal's fourth season will premiere on September 29.
