NFL Schedule & Predictions: Can Seahawks Win Another Championship?

The Seattle Seahawks seem to be in top form to win another NFL championship.

During their preseason game against the Chicago Bears at CenturyLink Field on August 22, 2014, they won with a final score of 34-6. In an article by Bleacher Report, the first-time offense and defense played particularly well. Quarterback Russell Wilson and the offensive team managed to score 31 points without any retaliation from the opposing team. Running back Marshawn Lynch also played well, managing a couple of touchdowns and showing a lot of speed in the process. He had 15 completions on 20 pass attempts and 202 yards.

Wide receivers Percy Harvin and Jermain Kearse also played well, with Kearse finishing the game with four catches for 63 yards. Doug Baldwin and Christine Michael were good catchers. One of the few mistakes that the Seahawks committed was the interception from quarterback Terrell Pryor during the fourth quarter.

In a report by SB Nation, the Seahawks have to stay healthy and avoid committing unnecessary turnovers. They specifically have to improve their offense should they want to retain their their title. They also need to have Harvin play a full season and avoid any injury. Harvin is an asset to the team by being an offensive weapon and running lanes to destroy the defense. 

The past season, some players suffered injuries which negatively affected their depth. If they can manage to be in good shape, with their key players in the roster staying on the field for majority of games in the season, the team can have a great chance of winning two consecutive Super Bowls.

The Guardian writes that the last team to successfully win back-to-back championships was the New England Patriots in 2004 and 2005. The Seahawks are favorites to win another and the betting odds are for them, 9-2. One of their key strengths is the presence of young players in their roster. The average age of a Seahawk player is 26.5 years, making them the fourth-youngest team to win a Super Bowl.

Quarterback Russell Wilson has also shown that he can continue to improve as he grows older. He can be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in 2014, without even hurting the team budget. He is expected to be offered a heftier sum by the team when his first three years expire. Other team assets include Golden Tate and Micheal Bennett.
