LeBron James has joined the Ice Bucket craze.

In support of the ALS Association, the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar took the "Ice Bucket Challenge" with the main goal of increasing awareness and raising funds for ALS research. He was initially invited by fellow NBA player Kevin Durant as well as Kevin Hart, Brandon Weems and DJ Steph Floss.

In an article by Bleacher Report, James sais in his video, "I accept the challenge from Brandon Weems, Kevin Durant, Kevin Hart and DJ Steph Floss, and I nominate LeBron Jr., Bryce Maximus and President Obama for the ALS challenge."

Watch video below.

In the video, LeBron was sitting on a wooden deck chair on a yacht as he was saying his lines. Two guys were holding up a big plastic bucket of ice behind him. James was only wearing a pair of gray Nike compression shorts at the time. After finishing his statement, the two guys poured the cold package over his head. The basketball star screamed as soon as he felt the icy water and had to get out of his chair while still screaming away from the camera's view.

According to SB Nation, according to the rules of the "Ice Bucket Challenge", the challenged people have to do the dare within 24 hours. Although James was past the 24-hour mark set by Durant, his stint is set to raise more money for the program. James further invited his two sons as well as the President of the United States to show their support and answer to his invitation within the same span of time.

Athletes continue to join in the "Ice Bucket Challenge" initiated by the ALS Association. The group primarily aims to help find a cure for ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) or Lou Gehrig's Disease which is a neurodenegerative disease that targets nerve cells in the affected person's brain and spinal cord, causing debilitating symptoms and hindering normal function. In a press release by alsa.org, the "Ice Bucket Challenge" has raised over $13.3 million. Donations have grown significantly from the $1.7 million generated at around the same time in the past year. There are close to 260,000 new donors to the ALS Association.

Although LeBron's children are expected to do the challenge under the guidance of their father, fans can only wait for President Obama to finally respond to the request. Last week, widow of Robert Kennedy, Ethel Kennedy, challenged Obama to do the same thing although the White House stated that the President declined but would donate to the ALS Association instead, writes USA Today.
