Another name has been linked to the "True Detective" production. According to an E! Online source, actor, Vince Vaughn, is in talks to join the thought-provoking crime drama for Season Two. Moreover, he is purportedly eyed by show producers to play one of the lead characters in the series.
Although there is no actual confirmation from HBO, nor from the show creator and writer, Nic Pizzolatto, Vaughn might be in the company of Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch, who were also offered with lead roles for the show's second season, according to rumors.
TVLine was the first to report about Vaughn's possible casting in "True Detective." Should this be serious, Vaughn might be an interesting choice for HBO because he is a known comedian. On the other hand, we should not forget how he managed to get our hearts broken, including Jennifer Aniston's character's feelings in the 2006 film, "The Break-Up."
Vaughn has appeared in several TV shows before making it big in movies. His IMDb profile listed the star's acting stints in "Doogie Howser, MD," "21 Jump Street," and "China Beach," to name a few.
Despite the buzz Vaughn created with his supposed negotiations with HBO for a lead part in "True Detective," how Pizzolato managed to convince the producers to create an entirely new story for Season 2, remains a mystery. It could be recalled that the show earned positive remarks from critics not only for the stellar performances of its actors (Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in leading roles), but the very juicy storyline that had us glued to our seats. On the other hand, FilmDivider, of which Indie Wire said, is a credible publication in breaking film news, revealed that the new plot would evoke a more "Chinatown" vibe.
"The new mystery is to be kickstarted by the murder of Ray Caspar, City Manager of a fictional Californian city. From what I can gather, the new, partly invented map that Pizzolatto is drawing will be essential to his new story. As he teased, some months ago, part of the mystery will involve California's transportation systems. This plot will involve a corrupt scheme to link North and South California with a high speed train, all in pursuit of profitable land ownership and lucrative federal grants," FilmDivider wrote.
Moreover, Indie Wire said that Vaughn, might be playing a "damaged" character.
HBO President, Michael Lombardo, must be impressed with the new story for "True Detective." He was quoted by E! Online as saying, "The two scripts we have are, I hate to jinx it, but are more exciting than the first season," Lombardo said. "[Pizzolatto has] blown us away with the first two episodes."
