The highly-anticipated trailer of the erotic film, "Fifty Shades of Grey," has somewhat titillated fans of the books and the curious many who want to know how the producers of the movie will be able to bring the E.L. James franchise to life on the silver screen.
It certainly did not disappoint, if it were to be based on the number of views it has on YouTube. Although it was just released about a week ago, it managed to surpass the other trailer with the highest number of views for the same week. Citing figures from tech company Zefr, Yahoo Movies reported that the "Fifty Shades" trailer was viewed 36.4 million times compared to its previous winner, "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" at 31 million.
In this premise, host, Jimmy Fallon began to cook up one of his most winning television pranks on "The Tonight Show" history, and his resident band, The Roots, fell victim to it.
On Tuesday, "The Tonight Show" host showed a video of three of The Roots members watching the sexy "Fifty Shades of Grey" trailer on a laptop with headphones on, New York Daily News reported. Expecting nothing but some sexy moments, the band members, including drummer, Questlove, got the most shocking surprise.
Each of The Roots members were individually filmed while watching the trailer, and the show viewers laughed when The Roots reacted to a scary face that popped up in the middle of the trailer, E! News reported. Questlove actually screamed in horror, as his hulking frame jumped away from the laptop while covering his face. The rest of the members were equally scared, with one dropping a bad word while the other threw the headphones and scrambled away from the camera view, Daily News said.
Fallon is no stranger to comedy. According to his IMDb profile, he is an alum of the longest-running comedy sketch series, "Saturday Night Live," and carried on with his pranks and comedy skits with his stint in the "Late Night" franchise in 2009. He was selected by NBC after Jay Leno retired from "The Tonight Show," and has been providing some fresh comedy relief to primetime audience early this year, mostly with the help of The Roots and his celebrity friends as willing victims.
After the show, Questlove went on Twitter to acknowledge the good prank Fallon did on the band and wrote on Wednesday, "#WeGotPunked."
