Will the newest smartphone from Samsung include a retina scanner? The strong hint from the Samsung Exynos Twitter account this past July 14 certainly indicates such, fuelling speculation that the coming Samsung Galaxy Note 4 will carry this feature.
The Galaxy Note 4 has been tagged as Samsung's latest flagship android phone, and if previous years are any indication, the device will be released by September of 2014. This early, PC Advisor is already including the retina scanner among the phone's features, as well as a 5.7-inch screen (bigger than the Galaxy Note 2's 5.5-inch display), 4k screen, UV sensor, and a premium metal version with a flexible screen.
The UV sensor, as explained on Sammobile, works in tandem with Samsung's S Health application. The report goes on to say that, "The sensor will be used to measure the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation and prevent users from damaging their skin, ageing it prematurely, and increasing their risk of skin cancer by giving recommended guidance based on the current UV index level at that particular place and time."
This device will also come with the standard Samsung S Pen stylus that we've come to expect from the Galaxy Note series. Th device will also be powered by Google's Android OS. By September, the latest version of the OS, codenamed "Lollipop," might already be bundled with the phone. Evan Blass of Evleaks also says that the Galaxy Note S4 will come in the same color selection as the Samsung Galaxy S5, which means you can expect Note 4 in Charcoal Black, Electric Blue, Shimmery White, and Copper Gold.
News varies, however, whether the Galaxy Note 4 will come with a Super AMOLED screen or a PLS LCD in its place. The reasoning behind the switch to LCD is a cost-cutting measure, as the company could save as much as 20% doing so. Still, nothing has been set in stone, paving the way for those who still advocate for the Super AMOLED screen.
The targeted September release date for the Galaxy Note 4 could indicate another showdown between Samsung and archrival Apple, which is releasing its iPhone 6 at around the same time.
Though there were previous reports that the Samsung Galaxy S5 would come with the retina scanner, the actual released device instead came with a fingerprint scanner. Excitement surrounding the retina scanner is high due to its safety and security implications. Much like a fingerprint scanner, a retina scanner on a smartphone would be used to authorization and identification purposes, further adding to one's smartphone security.
