In 2009, LeBron James advised professional basketball players, who wear jersey No. 23, to hang it up to show respect to the greatest basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan. On July 27, the Cleveland superstar said "It's only right" that he wore the jersey number again.

On Sunday night, James posted on Instagram, "23 it is! It's only right I go back. 2·3=6. We still family 6. #HomeTeam #StriveForGreatness". Together with his statement, he posted a photo of himself playing with the Cavs, an old highschool photo of himself in the yellow and green Irish uniform also with the No. 23 and his rookie picture holding his new Cavs No. 23 uniform upon being drafted by the team in 2003.

In a report by CBS Sports, LeBron last donned the jersey No. 23 in a Cleveland Cavaliers' uniform in 2010. It was during the Eastern Conference playoffs when the Cavs lost to the Boston Celtics. During his four-year tenure in Miami, he wore jersey No. 6.

According to the LA Times, when he transferred to the Miami Heat and wore No. 6, he asked that the NBA retire No. 23 to honor Jordan. He said then, "I feel like no NBA player should wear 23. I'm starting a petition, and I've got to get everyone in the NBA to sign it. Now, if I'm not going to wear No. 23, then nobody else should be able to wear it."

LeBron will be seen wearing the uniform once again in October 2014, when the NBA regular season commences. He wore the same number throughout his high school career and during his first seven years with the Cavaliers. When he played for Team USA, he wore the No. 6 jersey. Before the announcement on Sunday, a lot of fans thought James would be wearing No. 32, his jersey number when he was a freshman in high school.

Fans were happy to know that James will be using his old number in Cleveland. His Instagram post was liked and shared thousands of times. Hundreds also congratulated him again for being back on the team and looked forward to another stellar year alongside Kyrie Irving and Andrew Wiggins. The Cavaliers store is most likely already selling the new No. 23 jerseys. Also, fans joked that the Cavs only need to retire one jersey upon James' retirement, not two.
