Hold your horses! Before you plead for the Aussie actor, take note that Chris Hemsworth is still appearing as a man on "Avengers 2," don't worry.

Marvel's female Thor will be appearing in the comics, not in the films.

According to writer Jason Aaron, the new spin will be published in October, with artwork my Russell Dauterman.

An announcement made by Marvel Comics reads, "No longer is the classic male hero able to hold the mighty hammer, Mjölnir, a brand new female hero will emerge who will be worthy of the name Thor."

Wil Moss, a Marvel Editor also said, "The inscription on Thor's hammer reads 'Whosoever holds this hammer, if HE be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.' Well it's time to update that inscription. The new Thor continues Marvel's proud tradition of strong female characters like Captain Marvel, Storm, Black Widow and more. And this new Thor isn't a temporary female substitute - she's now the one and only Thor, and she is worthy."

Wait, so she's not a female version of Thor? How does Thor become a woman, all of a sudden anyway?

According to The Guardian, Thor is not changing in a transgender or pivotal-moment way. It just is.

As Aaron put it, "This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR. This is the THOR of the Marvel universe. But it's unlike any Thor we've ever seen before."

There are mixed reactions to this role. As noted by the website, a female counterpart to every super hero is a good thing, but with female Thor being just is, The Guardian's Paris Lees noted, "Putting women in men's roles only gets you so far. Sexism didn't disappear when women started wearing trousers."

Time magazine also defended Marvel's decision to have a female Thor. Time's Alex Fitzpatrick said that Thor is not the only one who has lifted the Mjolnir. It decides for itself who's worthy of it, and there are others who did. Captain America and the Hulk have. So did Superman.

Yeah, yeah. But those are still male. What about Odin's spell?

Time has an answer for that too. According to the article, "That Odin's spell specifically says "he" doesn't really matter: Storm and Wonder Woman (another crossover!) have both been deemed worthy, signaling Mjolnir has perhaps developed a less strict constructionist ideology about itself than Odin ever had.

What do you think about a female Thor?
