Fans of the Cristina-Burke loveteam were left devastated long ago when the master surgeon left his brilliant protege at the altar on the day of their wedding. However, they were delighted that Cristina found a new love in military doctor, Owen Hunt.

So it was puzzling when longtime cast member, Sandra Oh, bade farewell to "Grey's Anatomy," leaving fans guessing whether actor Ken McKidd, who plays Owen, would be staying on the ABC show. This is considering the fact that McKidd's character was quickly elevated from a visiting Army surgeon to a new head of trauma surgery at Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital and finally, the hospital's new chief of surgery.

However, the Scottish actor quickly shot down the rumors of him leaving the show. He told Australian news outlet, News.com.au, that he will be staying.

McKidd said that he was already toying with the idea of leaving as well, since his show partner, Oh, was departing from the show.

"I kind of knew it (Oh leaving) was coming. I wrestled with it (Oh's decision) because Owen Hunt was created to be attached to Cristina Yang. In the spirit of that original conception I was (thinking) ‘well, maybe I should leave the show ... maybe I should let these characters leave together and let that be their mythology and their final history', which is a very romantic notion. But then there's practicalities in your life like (paying) the bills, so I really wrestled with that."

On the other hand, he said that after meeting with show creator Shonda Rhimes, he's changed his mind about leaving, much to the relief of fans who had grown to love the ginger-haired doctor.

"She feels very passionate that there is a lot more to look at with Owen Hunt. When he becomes detached by necessity from Cristina, there is going to be this whole other layer that we've never ever gotten to know. That got me excited ... because if there was nothing else (for Hunt to do) then I should move on," McKidd said.

On the other hand, McKidd believes that he can soldier through without Oh, whom he had grown attached to as a personal friend in the show. Moreover, the actor had grown to love the show, given the fact that he had directed seven episodes of the ABC hit show in the last three years.

He recalled, "When I first directed I thought everybody was going to be horrible to me. Everyone was fantastic, but they still challenged me in a way that directors should be challenged. It (directing) is kind of like going to a mental gymnasium. And when you're editing, you're suddenly using a completely different part of your mind."

Wetpaint, just like the rest of the show's fans, can't wait to see how Rhimes would develop McKidd's character on the show. "Grey's Anatomy" Season 11 can very well provide answers to that, as the installment will be aired in September this year.
