Although Google Glass has yet to hit mainstream and be available to the rest of us, rumor has it that a second iteration of the newsmaking device is already in the works, Developer Tech said.
"Crystal Optech is a leading supplier of optoelectronic components and the company's own Kong Wenjun has confirmed - through several 'middle men' so as not to draw a connection to Mountain View - that they have supplied samples of optical coatings to Google's Research and Development department for the Glass project," the tech news source reported. "One of their other products is a polarisation splitting prism similar to that used in the current Glass."
Looks like Google Glass 2 is indeed in development.
The site went on to say that "either Google themselves or Crystal Optech has been working with an Isreal-based video eyewear company in Israel."
"It's not a long-shot to take a guess that they're working with renowned company, Lumus, on their next Glass iteration," Developer Tech continued.
Lumus has developed the DK-32, which utilized a "full-sized pair of eye glasses" rather than projecting things on a small expanse of glass, like the Google Glass.
Last January's CES saw the unveiling of the DK40, which operates on Android and still projects its interface on the conventional-design eye glasses. There were whisperings of Google holding discussions with Lumus, but the latter, being a small firm, reportedly cannot deliver in bulk what the tech company needed.
With that, it won't be surprising if Google will look into the possibility of acquiring the said firm. The guys at Lumus do have something significant to contribute to the work-in-progress that is Google Glass.
We have yet to receive word on when Google Glass will get a public release. However, if its sequel is indeed already in the works, is the first iteration worth buying? Your thoughts, readers?
