At the tail end of April, we talked about rumors of One Direction singer Liam Payne and girlfriend Sophia Smith breaking up. These were sparked by a series of tweets that somehow gave fans and followers hints that all may not be well with the couple - or that they have actually "uncoupled."
Not long after speculations about a split ran high, sources confirmed to the press that indeed the pop heartthrob and his ladylove had parted ways. Not seeing in the same direction anymore, Liam and Sophia?
"He's devastated that it's over but it was for the best," an insider told Us Weekly. "They were spending too much time apart and it's only going to get worse this year -- the band going on a super long tour, her getting busier with university."
"Too much long distance. It was draining for the both of them and led to a lot of arguments. Liam was the one who chose to end it," the source added.
"There was no way to maintain the relationship," another insider revealed. "He had to do it as they would never see each other and he didn't think it was fair to her."
This goes to say that Liam broke up with Sophia with a heavy heart -- a fact that he keeps reminding his fans through his revealing Twitter posts.
Recently, the 20-year-old One Direction member tweeted a series of messages that apparently indicated he wants Sophia back. Is he just grieving over the end of a romance or is he actually thinking of getting back with her?
"If I had the minutes I would turn them into hours and make love to you mind and not your body instead- all back," one post read.
"If I could win you back I could," another revealed.
