While Betty White has yet to confirm or deny her involvement at the Democratic National Convention, audiences are set to get their celebrity fix when Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, and Kerry Washington show up on stage this Thursday. No official confirmation has been provided by convention officials, but sources close to CNN indicate that the three actresses will appear on stage together after a performance by the Foo Fighters. They have all been vocal supporters of the Obama administration since 2008.
In a phone interview with the Las Vegas Review Journal, Portman stated: "I think the thing that is most upsetting in the past four years is how partisan they've been in blocking Obama's reforms."
"All of us should be putting country first," she added.
Johansson spoke with the Huffington Post, expressing: "I think people are really in dire straits and they are very reasonably and understandably upset...I mean Obama inherited a turkey, he really did, and he's working to...he's fighting a kind of uphill battle in a sense and he has these past four years." "Change doesn't happen overnight, you know, we know that."
In an exclusive opinion piece on News One, Washington writes, "On the campaign trail, I have been honored to meet volunteers all over the country who are working hard to make sure that President Obama has another term. They are a reminder that this country belongs to all of us and that in order for us to have political power, we must participate in the process...That is why, once again, I am choosing to be vocal in my support of our President."
