Muhammad Ali, dubbed as "The Greatest" boxer in history, dared Floyd Mayweather to fight Manny Pacquiao after Floyd's recent win against Maidana on May 3, 2014. Ali tweeted, "Congratulations @FloydMayweather. Maybe after you rest up we can see you rumble with @MannyPacquiao!"

Ali's post was sent from his official account on the social media site Twitter, and received over 17,000 retweets. Over 8,000 Twitter users favorited the tweet as well.

For over half a decade, fans of both fighters have been clamouring for the dream fight. However, the two champions never saw each other eye to eye and agreements continued to break down. The two have also had nasty verbal exchanges before. Mayweather accused Pacquiao of using steroids, while the latter simply conceded that Mayweather was afraid to face him, according to Boxing News 24.

Other legendary boxers like Lennox Lewis, former heavyweight champion, also requested that the undefeated Mayweather and eight-division title holder Pacquiao finally settle things and allow the super-fight to happen before time runs out. Lewis also resorted to Twitter to share his opinions on both fighters and cited how he made a mega-fight happen between him and Mike Tyson before. Lewis said that Showtime and HBO should work together to let the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight happen just as they did before between him and Tyson, where Lewis won in the eighth round via knockout.

According to Yahoo! Sports, Mayweather's camp seemed unenthusiastic about a fight with Pacquiao. They tended to avoid discussions about a dream fight against the Filipino boxer and instead, talked about a rematch with Maidana or a fight with Amir Khan. Manny, on the other hand, immediately said that he is ready to face Mayweather when the latter is ready, after his win over Timothy Bradley in April 2014. Mayweather remained adamant that he will never do business with Bob Arum of Top Rank Promotions.

Oscar De la Hoya also said that Mayweather's undefeated record does not mean much and cited that the champion had a few controversial wins. Apparently, boxers, promoters and fans are starting to get tired of waiting.
