Wes Welker, wide receiver of the Denver Broncos, held on to a thick wad of cash then started handing out $100 bills to every person in sight at the Kentucky Derby on May 3, 2014. He just won thousands of dollars at the derby, according to a report by USA Today and decided to share the bounty to strangers by giving out cash as he left Churchill Downs. It was uncertain where Welker placed his bet, but it was obvious that he was so happy with the victory.

He already handed out at least $600 and people started to flock around him after hearing and seeing others get one bill each. Security personnel had to escort Welker to the exit to avoid any problems. Marc Blandford, an avid race viewer, said that Welker was with a police officer and another companion with a big stack of money in his hand. Blandford greeted Welker and immediately, Welker gave out $100 bills to Blandford's companions. Even Blandford got one. Welker told him that he just won the Kentucky Derby.

According to a Deadspin report, Welker's recent victory at the derby may be comparably small compared to the fresh contract he signed with the Broncos for two years in which he will be getting $12 million. Jeff Novak, another celebrity derby enthusiast, also noticed how Welker seemed so elated upon winning the race. Novak said that Welker won a few hundreds of thousands of dollars so he decided to give out a few loose change to the crowd.

Some NFL fans speculate that Welker may have handed out the cash out of the kindness of his heart or excitement that he is getting so much cash in the meantime. Others said that the wide receiver may be building his fan base. His act can be compared to one incident where Floyd Mayweather let $50,000 cash fly out to the crowd in a bar. Regardless of his intentions, he stirred publicity, writes TMZ.
