South Korean rapper Psy, whose hit song "Gangnam Style" has brought him to superstardom has signed a contract with a United States record label in a bid to bring his critical acclaim to a wider audience, his management company YG Entertainment announced on Tuesday.

Psy, who was in the United states last month, had a meeting during his trip with Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun to discuss potential opportunities in the lucrative U.S. market. As announced today he has signed with Universal Music Group's Def Jam Recordings. The hip hop super group represents artists including Bieber, Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez.

"Details, including the timing of a new album's release, have not yet been determined," YG said in a statement. "We will continue discussions in the future."

Under the terms of the agreement with Def Jam, the company now maintains exclusive international publishing rights and management over Psy, whose "Gangnam Style" megahit is one of the tracks on Psy's 6th album, just recently released. Psy is scheduled for another trip to the States in the near future, where he will promote "Gangnam Style" in collaboration with Def Jam.

"I'm experiencing all these things for the first time," Psy said in a statement through YG. "I feel like I'm reaching my peak for the first time in eleven years after debuting. I now have mixed feelings that I want to use this chance to enhance the prestige of South Korea and that I should not attempt too much.

Psy, who has received an invitation to the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, will attend the event during his time in the States.

However, "it was not decided regarding whether he will receive a prize or perform in celebration of the event," YG said.

Psy began receiving critical acclaim when "Gangnam Style" debuted on YouTube in mid-July. It has since received over 100 million views and has spawned numerous paradies ranging from the sports to the political arena. The song is currently #33 on Apple's iTunes Top 100 Songs Chart and #1 on iTunes Top 100 Music Videos Chart.
