There is no denying the fact that Neil Patrick Harris is serious about his craft. So when a female fan shouted out her love for the "How I Met Your Mother" star midway during his recent performance of "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" on Broadway, she got an earful from him instead, the New York Post wrote.

According to Gossip Cop, Harris, who was in character as a transgender East German punk, remained unfazed and said, "Who's Neil? I'm not Neil. I'm doing something up here, motherf---er."

It is not clear whether the fan was offended or was still ecstatic when Harris responded, but the gossip news site said that the actor's remarks drew a huge round of applause from the audience. However, Gossip Cop said that people who are familiar with the show knew that "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" is highly improvisational and embraces interaction with the audience. Because of that, it was presumed that the banter was an entertaining addition to the Broadway production.

Harris' representative also told Gossip Cop about the banter and referring to the malicious reporting in several news sources, had said, "When the fan initially yelled, ‘I love you, Neil,' Neil (as Hedwig) then responded, ‘Who's Neil? I'm not Neil.' He then looked over at Yitzhak (played by Lena Hall) and said, ‘Are you Neil? You better not be Neil' followed by Hedwig then offering the quote in question. It was all done in good fun, and fully in the context of the show. The audience went crazy and it really was a light-hearted moment, which is not being properly contextualized in any of these various posts."

The Post's Page Six said that Harris' performance in the "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" is getting huge buzz for a Tony, which is Broadway's version of an Oscar. Named after Antoinette Perry, the Tony recognizes achievement of actors in live theater performances. Although Harris has yet to win a Tony, he has hosted the show for the years 2009, 201, 2012 and 2013, the Minneapolis Star Tribune said.
