NHL Playoffs 2014 Standings & Recap: Bruins Ties Series with Red Wings

The Boston Bruins won against the Detroit Red Wings to tie the series 1-1 in Game 2 on April 20, 2014. The final score was 4-1.

The Bruins had a couple of power plays which gave the team momentum early in the game. According to Reilly Smith of the Bruins, they do not usually enjoy power plays often so it was the best opportunity for them to capitalize early during the match. Smith scored with a man advantage, together with Zdeno Chara. It was Justin Florek's first career playoff goal.

The first goal for the Bruins was made by Florek. The shot was considered a fluke but nonetheless gave Boston the lead at 7:28. Three minutes later at 10:35, Smith made another goal. In an article by Lohud, the first period concluded with the Bruins shooting 18. During game 1, they only had 25 shots for the entire game.

On the other side, the Red Wings only managed to get in the goal after four power plays. According to The Boston Globe, Luke Glendening scored the lone goal at 13:20, giving hope for Detroit temporarily.

The third and fourth goals by Milan Lucic and Chara in the second and third periods respectively sealed the game. Mike Babcock, coach of the Red Wings said, "I thought were ineffective, period."

Detroit and Boston are set to play Game 3 of the best-of-seven series on April 22, 2014 in Detroit. The Bruins are the No. 1 seed while the Red Wings are the No. 8 seed. The power play of the Bruins has improved significantly and they are third in the entire league at 21.7 percent.
