Gen-Xers, rejoice! "The Goonies 2" will have a sequel soon!

For those of you who do not share the same level of excitement as the fans of the 80's cult hit film, this top 5 reasons why the sequel will be a hit should enlighten you:

  • The original had a good message.

According to The Frisky's Kate Torgovnick, it's "mainly that kids could take action and make real change in their community." And even renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg agrees. "Steven [Spielberg] and Dick [Donner] and all the powers that be... they really feel like the thing that made the movie strong was that it was about kids, so they really want to make the next movie about kids... the next generation of Goonies," cast member Sean Astin was quoted by The Daily Mail as saying.

  • It's about outcasts.

A good number of people, adolescent or adult, have experienced being excluded from a group of people or an institution. And 'The Goonies" is made up of a group of kids who are in that same boat. We're betting the sequel's going to have the same "outcast" aspect, as well, and that many will be able to identify with the characters in the movie.

  • The original cast will be back.

This is double joy for fans of the Richard Donner-directed flick as this would re-ignite 80s nostalgia for past child stars. It would be interesting to see how the cast have turned out 30 years after, some of which have gone on to do non-Hollywood endeavors.

  • Steven Spielberg was involved in the first movie.

The Academy Award-winning director created the story behind "The Goonies." It will be interesting to see whether he'll once again be involved in the second one.

  • It has interesting characters.

There's Chunk, resident jester and laugh-generator. There's perky and smart Data, "who creates his own inventions like the 'Wings of Flight,' the 'Pincers of Peril,' and the 'Bully Blinder,'" The Frisky noted. There's also the Goonie Brandon "Brand" Walsh, played by "No Country for Old Men" star Josh Brolin.
