The Marvel movie seems to have clicked big time as sales for the movie has set the record for best April opening and even earned a CinemaScore of "A" from audiences, notes Entertainment Weekly.

The movie, which stars Chris Evans, is the sequel to the 2011 "Captain America: The First Avenger," which raked in a total of $193.9 million during its foreign run, notes The Hollywood Reporter.

"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" has bagged $96.2 million for playing in 3,938 locations in the US alone, adds The Hollywood Reporter. Overseas, "Captain America 2" has already potted $207.1 million, clearly surpassing the overseas sales of the original film.

"This start is fantastic. Between the critical response and the CinemaScore, this gives us a lot of hope for how we will continue to play, considering the relative lack of competition and the benefit of three more weeks of spring break, both in the U.S. and overseas," Disney distribution chief Dave Hollis said in a report by The Hollywood Reporter.

The Russo brothers-film was up against "Noah," which ranked a distant second in the box office this weekend as noted by Entertainment Weekly. The movie adaptation of the biblical tale reportedly raked in $17 million this weekend, now with cumulative sales of $72.3.

The third spot at the Top 5 weekend box office this week is held by another movie adaptation, "Divergent." The film, derived from the young adult book of the same title, stars Shailene Woodley as the star. The Veronica Roth story-based-movie has reportedly bagged $114 million in cumulative sales, with $13 million in sales over the weekend.

"God's Not Dead" comes in fourth with $7.7 million in earnings for the weekend and $33 million in cumulative sales on its third week. "The Grand Budapest Hotel" closes the Top 5 with sales of $6.3 million over the weekend, adding up to $33.4 million in total sales.
