A grim incident occurred on the set of "Avengers: Age of Ultron" while the cast and crew were filming on the Mapo Bridge in Seoul, South Korea last March 30.
According to Kotaku, Korean news websites Naver and Hankooki reported that a body of a dead boy was found floating underneath the bridge. A security guard working for the production discovered the body around 2:15 pm while filming was taking place. Based on initial investigations by the South Korean police officers, the boy had been dead for around two weeks.
As for the cause of death of the boy, there are no formal reports yet but authorities are speculating that it may be a suicide case. In South Korea, the Mapo bridge, which connects the Mapo District and the Yeongdeungpo District across the Han River, is a notorious suicide spot.
The Huffington Post reported that from 2007 to 2012, over 100 suicide attempts have been made on Mapo bridge.
The "Avengers" production team closed the Mapo Bridge from 6:00 am to 5:30 pm to film the scenes for the upcoming movie. This was the first time the bridge has ever been closed to traffic for a movie.
Prior to shooting on the bridge, director Joss Whedon issued a statement and an apology to South Korean residents regarding the closure through a video with Korean subtitles, the Wall Street Journal reported. He said, "We are going to mess it up a bit and inconvenience some people for a few days and I apologize for that. I know what that's like. I live in Los Angeles. It happens to me all the time and it's no fun."
He continued, "I hope that it will be worth it. We love this movie. We love your city and having two of them together will show the city to the world in a light I don't think it's been shown."
