A shooting which took place on Sunday at Miami Gardens ended the life of a woman who was seven months pregnant as she drove her car on Northwest 32nd Avenue.

According to first reports released by the CBS, the shooting happened shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday, close to 182 St. in Miami Gardens, when the victims, identified as Qualecia James, mother of a 4 year old girl and close to giving birth to her second child, traveled in the passenger's seat of the car driven by a friend.

Investigators revealed that the car in which James traveled was approached by another car on 182 St. on Miami Gardens and one of its passengers shot against them, without there being any further details on the crime's motives.

"The victim's vehicle moved north on NW 32nd Avenue when another vehicle approached and opened fire against the vehicle, hitting the woman," said Mike Wright, a detective of Miami Gardens Police, according to CBS.

Two other people traveling with James were not injured during the accident, authorities report.

Qualecia James was urgently taken to a nearby hospital; however, her status was reported as critical and died hour later from her wounds. The baby is in critical state and doctors are fighting to save its life.

Detective Wright told the media that the police started an investigation to catch the author of this crime and request help from the population to find those responsible.
