The spring movie season is about to begin and many studios will begin releasing some of the most anticipated films of the year.

A number of blockbusters will be released throughout March and April with studios prepping for the onset of the summer movie season. On March 21, Summit will release "Divergent" attempting to start a new young adult franchise. The movie is based on the Veronica Roth novel of the same name and stars Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet and Theo James.

That same date Buena Vista's "Muppets Most Wanted" will be released. The film comes on the heels of the successful 2011 film which scored an outstanding $88 million at the box office. The upcoming release stars Tina Fey, Ty Burrell and Ricky Gervais.

March 28 will see the release of "Noah" directed by Darren Aronofsky. The film based on the biblical story stars Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connolly, Emma Watson and Logan Lerman. The film will be released by Paramount.

After that, Marvel will release "Captain America: The Winter Solider" on April 4, an interesting strategy considering that the first film was released in the summer. The new film follows the Captain America's story after the events that took place in "The Avengers."

Fox will release "Rio 2" on April 11 after a successful first movie. The original film was released in the same time period and made $143 million. Emulating the same strategy and bringing back the same characters could have the same results.

April 18 will see the release of Wally Pfister's "Transcendence." The science-fiction film will be release by Warner Bros. and will star Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall, Kate Mara and Cillian Murphy.

For art house audiences, the specialty divisions have a number of interesting and diverse movies being released. Roadside Attractions will release the Cannes Film Festival selection "Blood Ties" on March 21. The films stars Clive Owen, Marion Cotillard, Zoe Saldana, Mila Kunis and Matthias Schoenaerts.

Meanwhile, Magnolia Pictures will release the two-part film "Nymphomaniac Volume 1 and 2" on March 21 and April 4. The film by Lars Von Trier has been one of the most controversial movies of the year and should interest fans of the director.

On March 28 Lionsgate will release "Cesar Chavez" directed by Diego Luna and starring Michael Pena. The epic film tells the story of the civil-rights activist and labor organizer Cesar Chavez.

Fox Searchlight will release the wildly chaotic "Dom Hemingway" starring Jude Law on April 2 while A24 will release the divisive festival favorite "Under the Skin" starring Scarlet Johansson on April 4.

Magnolia is also scheduled to release "Alan Partridge: The Movie" based on the famous British character on April 4. The movie stars Steve Coogan and has obtained rave reviews.

Roadside Attractions is also scheduled to release "Joe," which looks like it could resurrect Nicolas Cage's career, while the Weinstein Company will unveil the highly-anticipated movie "The Railway Man" starring Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman. Both films are scheduled for April 11.

That same date will see the release of Jim Jarmusch's "Only Lovers Left Alive" starring Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston.

A24 will also release the one-man film "Locke" directed by Steven Knight on April 25. The award-winning film stars Tom Hardy.
