Manchester United's 2-0 loss represented a new low for the team. Not because it was another loss in a season filled with them, but because it was the loss that essentially put an end to a dreadful year for the team.

But things look to get worse for the team. David Moyes' transfer record this past year was woeful and it seems unlikely that his team's disinterested performance throughout the year will provide other players with any incentives to make a move to the Old Trafford. Afterall, how is it possible that the arrival of one man can make the Premier League Champions turn into perennial choke artists?

Toni Kroos was a rumored target for Moyes, but one must ask why the youngster would ever trade a spot with Pep Guardiola and Bayern Munich for a spot on the mangled midfield of Moyes.

Cristiano Ronaldo was a rumored target this offseason; I do not imagine anyone will ever bring up that conversation again.

So it seems that Moyes' attempts at luring major players in the offseason will likely bear no major fruit. But the trouble is just as much within.

Robin Van Persie must be thinking that he traded his soul to the devil—or the Red Devils, in this case—in exchange for one trophy. The Dutchman's career is likely winding down and his chances at glory with United will likely be minimal from here on out. He was already complaining about Moyes' messy system after the 2-0 lead while claiming that other players were occupying his spots and impeding his customary runs. That sounds like a selfish player unhappy with the team concept; I do not think we ever heard Van Persie complain about his space last year under Sir Alex Ferguson.

That Wayne Rooney signed a new deal is rather shocking. He was slated to leave the team last summer and it is hard to believe that the events that transpired during this season would have motivated him to spend another five years at the Old Trafford to finish out his career. What could Moyes actually offer him—aside from more money—that would actually make sense from a soccer standpoint? Rooney would likely be a starter anywhere he went.

Javier Hernandez is probably gone; one might imagine that Shinji Kagawa also feels mistreated due to his lack of playing time and will also run for the exits once the season comes to an end. We already know that Nemanja Vidic, the team's captain, is ready to jump ship; he seems to know that this is a lost cause in the near future.

So where does this team stand heading into 2014-15? Juan Mata is a solid addition, but he has not made a major improvement since joining United and looks like he is either regressing or needs some time to work out his game. It probably does not help that he is being placed on the wing and out of position for most games.

David De Gea is still a solid backstopper and provides the team with some security. However, the backline, which will likely be liberated from the awful play of Rio Ferdinand, is also a major work in progress.

The big question, however, is about who will be on the bench. Will it be Moyes? Will United's executives give him another chance to prove himself and risk the ire of the fans? Or have they seen enough of this failed experiment?
