Four people lost their lives and two more were seriously injured on Thursday, after a shooting took place in the offices of a Native American center in Modoc County, in northern California.

The police of Alturas said that Sherie Rhoades, a 44-year-old woman remains detained in the prison of Modoc County. At 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 20, she entered the office of the Tribal Community Center of Cedarville and discharged a firearm against the people inside, moments before using a butcher's knife to continue her attack, according to CNN.

According to the same source, Rhoades discharged her firearm against the people inside the community center, located 88.5 KM south of the border with Oregon and 56 KM west of the border with Nevada.

When the woman ran out of ammunition, she took a knife from the community center's kitchen and continued to attack more people. A man that was inside managed to run out of the building and alerted the Alturas police who arrived at the place and found the woman outside the building with a knife in her hands, and was put under custody.

According to a report by The Chicago Tribune, Sherie Lash, also known as Sherie Rhoades, was the former leader of the Tribal Office of the community, and the police continue to investigate the motives behind the shooting.

The same source reported that two women, aged 19 and 45, and two men, aged 30 and 50, lost their lives. Authorities have not revealed their names.

Another two victims that survived the attack were transported by air to nearby hospitals and are reported to be in critical state, the newspaper revealed.
