Nancy Motes, the stepsister of movie star Julia Roberts, was found dead on Sunday, Feb. 9 of what is thought to be a drug overdose.

According to Reuters, John Kades, spokesman for the forensic officer of the Los Angeles County, confirmed the news on Monday.

37-year-old Motes was found on the afternoon of Sunday inside a bathtub filled with water in a Los Angeles home, according to rescue teams' reports. At the place, which has been confirmed not to be the deceased's home, police officers found various drugs with medical prescription, and for the moment the possibility of her death being caused by a drug overdose is not being dismissed.

"With great sorrow, Nancy Motes' family confirms that she was found dead yesterday in Los Angeles in what seems to be a drug overdose. There is no official report from the forensic office yet. The family is heartbroken and in shock," reads a press release emitted to the media by Motes' family, reported People en Español.

The autopsy was programmed for Monday, Feb. 10, however, it might not be conclusive regarding the causes of death of the 37-year-old woman, and the final report might take up to eight or ten weeks, when a toxicology report provides conclusive details.

Nancy Motes was the younger sister of famous actors Julia and Eric Roberts.

Neither Julia nor Eric have made any statements on the matter; however, the 46-year-old actress, currently a candidate for Best Actress in the upcoming Academy Awards for her role in "August: Osage County", was not present at the candidates dinner organized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Monday.
