The International Opera awards have the announced the nominees for 2014.

The awards ceremony will be celebrating its second year in hopes to make opera more popular and bring more awareness.

The biggest competition of the year will be the Reader's Award, which has Piotr Beczala, Joesph Calleja, Joyce DiDonato, Renee Fleming, Juan Diego Florez, Anna Netrebko and Bryn Tefel all nominated. The award is the only honor that audiences can vote for. Last year Jonas Kaufmann won the award.

The Male Singer of the year nominees include tenors Stuart Skelton and Bryan Hymel and baritones Stephane Degout, Peter Mattei, and Michael Volle. Luca Pisaroni is also nominated for the second year in a row in the category.

The nominees for Female Singer of the Year are Diana Damrau, Christine Goerke, Anja Harterps, Christiane Karg, Petra Lang, Adrienne Pieczonka and Krassimira Stoyanova.

The nominees for Best Conducter are Teodor Currentzis, Mark Elder, Andris Nelsons, Gianandrea Noseda, Kirill Petrenko, and Simone Young.

The Opera Houses competing for Best Opera Company are Bayerische Staatsoper, Komische Oper, Berlin, Metropolitan Opera, The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, Vlaamse Opera and Oper Zurich.

Recent Met Opera debutantes Jaime Barton and Pretty Yende lead the Young Singer category, which also includes Emoke Barath, Helena Dix, Joyce El-Khoury, Joelle Harvey, and Corinne Winters. Duncan Rock will also compete for the award for the second year in a row.

The Opera Awards will take place on Monday, April 7 at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane in London.
