The Spanish League title race is destined to be tighter than it has been in years. After Sunday's match, it is possible that there will be a three-way tie for first place.

Real Madrid got things started on Saturday with a 4-2 win at home; Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Jese proved to be the heroes in Cristiano Ronaldo's absence, furthering the notion that Los Blancos' offense might be the deepest in the league. The win put them at 57 points and temporarily tied them with Atletico Madrid for the most points in the league. Los Colchoneros could have reclaimed the top spot with a win at Almeria, but Diego Simeone's squad was unable to generate anything against the recently promoted side. The result? A 2-0 loss that left them in second place thanks to goal differential.

Barcelona currently sits in third place with a game in hand. Blaugrana will play that match on Sunday when it heads to Sevilla. A win would shoot Barcelona back up to the top of the standings and create arguably the most exciting Spanish League race in years. All three teams have to play one another one more time.

Real Madrid plays Barcelona at home on March 23 and visits Atletico on March 2; of course Los Blancos are also supposed to visit Los Colchoneros for the Spanish Copa del Rey on Tuesday Feb. 11 in the decisive second leg.

Barcelona takes on Atletico Madrid in Barcelona on the final day of the season; that match could decide the Spanish League race if it has not been decided by that point.

Who wins the race?
