Paul Bettany has joined the cast of "The Avengers: Age of Ultron."
Variety is reporting that the actor has been cast as the Vision in the Avengers sequel.
The casting marks the second role Bettany portrays in a Marvel Cinematic Universe. He recently voiced Tony Stark's A.I. Jarvis in the "Iron Man" series.
Bettany's upcoming character, The Vision, first appeared in 1968's "The Avengers," created by Roy Thomas and John Buscema. The character in the comics was originally built by Ultron to be one of his henchmen, but turned on his creator, and joined The Avengers. The Vision has been a regular on the team and is known for proving that androids can cry.
The character was also married to Scarlet Witch, which will be portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen in the upcoming film.
Bettany is known for his work on "A Beautiful Mind," "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World," "Margin Call," and "Priest." He will next be seen in the upcoming Christopher Nolan-produced "Transcendence," which also stars Johnny Depp, Kate Mara, Rebecca Hall, and Morgan Freeman.
"The Avengers: Age of Ultron" tells the story of the Marvel superheroes as they reassemble to battle a sentient robot known as Ultron. The movie also stars Chris Hemsworth, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Don Cheadle, Anthony Mackie and James Spader.
Marvel's "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" opens May 1, 2015 and begins shooting next month.
