Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will face off in the first leg of the Copa del Rey on Wednesday.

For the first time in a long time the rivalry seems to have some significance. Atletico enters the game as the reigning Copa del Rey Champion and the top team in the Spanish League. Real Madrid enters the game looking to break a two-game losing streak against its cross-town rival.

The two teams met in the final of this very tournament a year ago. Los Blancos came out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a Cristiano Ronaldo header. However, Atletico battled back and earned a win in extra time. The victory ended a lengthy period of Real Madrid dominance in the rivalry.

The teams met once again this past fall and the result proved to be the same with Atletico defeating Real Madrid 1-0. Of course, that defeat came from a Real Madrid team that was lacking the offensive punch it has had over the last few weeks; the team has a league-leading 61 goals scored thus far this season.

"A different Real Madrid will play to the team that played Atletico in the league," said Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, according to BBC. "I think we are playing well and are confident at the moment. We are balanced but we could still improve. I'm happy with the team."

Real Madrid is coming off a crippling 1-1 draw at Athletic Bilbao that pulled them level with Barcelona for second place in the Spanish League. However, the team's superstar Cristiano Ronaldo was ejected from the game. Ronaldo is expected to start this game, as is Gareth Bale; the Welshman has struggled to remain healthy this entire season.

Man to Watch: Cristiano Ronaldo has not scored at the same pace as he was earlier this year and is likely to break his slump. Look for him to be the difference maker here.

Prediction: Real Madrid manages a 1-0 win at home.
Start Time: 2 p.m. EST
