Russian police keep a young student arrested after he entered a school in Moscow, shot a teacher and a policeman, and kept over 20 students hostage.

According to Reuters, the events took place at around midday on Monday, February 3, when a 15-year-old teenager described as a model student entered School 263 in northern Moscow, armed with a rifle.

The same source detailed that the teenager had threatened a guard at the school and forced him to take him to a classroom where a biology class was taking place. The teenager proceeded to hole up in the classroom with over 20 students and a teacher until he was detained by police units an hour later.

Before being arrested, the young man shot against one of the policemen through the window. The officer received medical attention at the location, but it was later revealed that the officer had lost his life.

The teacher that was taken hostage was also killed after the student shot him.

According to Euronews, Russian police informed that the suspect was armed with his father's rifle, who helped convince the teenager to surrender, less than two hours after the attack began.

So far, Russian police officers continue to interrogate the student, while the spokesman for the Russian Investigations Committee, Vladimir Markin, told the local media there are no immediate reasons to presume that the shooting is related to the student's academic performance, since he had distinguished himself as a model student and authorities are investigating the possibility that the incident was due to a conflict with a teacher.

The unusual shooting which took place in the Russian school takes place a few days away from the beginning of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, an event that has prompted various security measures to reinforce the region.
