A few days after the conclusion of the Sundance Film Festival, Sony Classics Pictures is looking to acquire the Mark Ruffalo-Zoe Saldana film "Infinitely Polar Bear."
Directed by Maya Forbes, the film tells the story of a bipolar father who is put in charge of taking care of his two young, precocious daughters after their mother leaves to pursue her MBA in New York.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sony Pictures is nearing a deal not only for domestic but also for some international territories.
The deal comes after the movie premiered at Eccles Theatre on Jan. 18 and was also being pursued by Roadside Attractions.
The movie is based on the Forbes' own childhood and the film marks her directorial debut.
The movie received favorable reviews with John De Fore from the Hollywood Reporter calling it "a feel-good picture that's a little less affecting than it might have been, but is entertaining enough..."
Justin Chang from Variety also gave the movie a good review and wrote, "Mark Ruffalo gives one of his most appealing performances in writer-director Maya Forbes' irresistible feature debut."
The deal is the latest for Sony, which acquired the critically-acclaimed film "Love is Strange" starring Alfred Molina and John Lithgow. Sony Pictures Classics is best known for distributing a number of indie and foreign films. This year the company released the critically acclaimed "Wadjda," "The Past" and Woody Allen's "Blue Jasmine" which received three Oscar nominations.
