New York commuters were treated to a musical surprise as Grammy-nominated rap duo Macklemore and Ryan Lewis hopped aboard a public bus and performed their song "Can't Hold Us".

You can watch the video below.

In an article by the Hollywood Reporter, the rap stars who made an impact with their single "Thrift Shop", waited on a corner and boarded a northbound Bronx bus. After the bus pulled over, the two entered and of course, paid for their fare.

Lewis then pushed the "play" button on his boom box and started to clap to the beat of "Can't Hold Us". The look on the passengers' faces seemed as if they didn't know if they were about to get mugged or get caught up in the middle of a flash mob.

But the mood inside the bus shifted quickly as the passengers then clapped along and danced to the beat as Macklemore rapped while walking down the aisle of the bus. Even the bus driver ignored the conventional rules of road safety and took his hands off the wheel to clap to the beat.

As if this occurrence wasn't random enough, the duo started tossing rolls of tissue paper at the passengers and tee-peed the interior of the bus.

This public performance stunt was perpetuated by the Grammy's as part of its "Music Unleashes Us" campaign to promote the award program which will be held on January 26. This project, which was developed through the partnership of The Recording Academy and TBWA\Chiat\Day, is about capturing the uncontrollable reactions of people to music.

According to Rick Utzinger, creative director for TWBA\Chiat\Day, the U.S. division of the advertising company TBWA Worldwide, "This campaign celebrates the undeniable human truth that we are powerless against music. It will tap our toes and shake our hips for us, whether we want to or not."

Other artists featured in the "Music Unleashes Us" campaign are Eminem, Katy Perry, and Pink.
