"Lone Survivor" has won the weekend box office defeating "Frozen" and "The Wolf of Wall Street."

The new film opened in wide release after having opened in limited release in December. "Lone Survivor" made $38 million in 2,875 theaters making it the first surprise of the year.

In second place, "Frozen" made $15 million and brought its total to $317 million. It is now the fourth-highest grossing film of 2013.

"The Wolf of Wall Street" continued to do solid business as it landed the third spot. The movie made $9 million and was down 32 percent. The movie has now made $78 million and if the film gets nominated for the Oscars or wins the Golden Globe, the movie is bound to cross the $120 million mark.

In fourth place, "The Legend of Hercules" debuted to a disappointing $8.6 million. The film is bound to lose steam at the box office and should find an audience on DVD.

In fifth place, "American Hustle" crossed the $100 million. The film grossed $8.6 million and has now made $101 million. With Golden Globe wins and Oscar nominations expected, "American Hustle" may be headed towards a final gross of $150 million.

"Her" opened in wide release but failed to gain a larger audience. The movie opened to a disappointing $5.4 million. After an outstanding limited release the film has now made $8.8 million. If the movie continues its awards race it may garner an audience. However, based on this weekend's numbers, "Her" may have have a better chance of snagging more viewers when it hits DVD.

Also expanding nationwide, "Inside Llewyn Davis" disappointed and made $1.86 million. The movie has now made $9.3 million.
