Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo? The question pervades any conversation about soccer. It's unavoidable. Even Indonesia has gotten in on the conversation with the nation's top star Andik Vermansyah weighing in.

The 23-year-old has been nicknamed "Indonesia's Messi" by fans for his terrific scoring ability. However, he is not pleased by the flattering nickname.

"I don't like Messi at all. I don't know why the public calls me that," said Vermansyah, according to Goal.com. "I chose No. 7 because I am actually more of a Ronaldo fan. And there's also the issue that I am not at the same level as where Messi is now."

At least the guy knows where he stands in the world of soccer.

Ronaldo has been gaining tremendous traction after putting together a terrific 2013. He outscored Messi by over 20 goals and also led Portugal to the World Cup finals on his own after scoring four goals against Sweden over two legs; he scored three times during the second leg in Sweden. He also broke the record for most goals in a Champions League group stage with nine tallies in five games.

Even though Ronaldo has arguably taken his game to a new level in 2013 (he did not win any team trophies, however), Messi seems to be a favorite to win his fifth straight trophy. Messi scored a little more than 40 goals this year, a big drop from his 92 last year, but he did win the Spanish League trophy and is also very popular around the world. This alone could make him the winner.
