Las Vegas is the current venue for CES 2014, erstwhile known as the International Consumer Electronics Show. It is, without a doubt, one of the biggest technology trade shows in the world and according to the New York Times, is "the reflection fo the rapidly changing electronics industry."

For this year's show, technology firms are focusing on tablets and smartphones. This is a departure from last year's darling - the lightweight notebook. The major buzz is wearable technology, as 2013 had the Google Glass and smartwatches dominating the headlines of the latter part of the year.

The Verge was on site, reporting on the CES keynote speeches, and for this year one of the speakers was 'Transformers' franchise director Michael Bay. CES major sponsor Samsung may be smarting from this move, as the director's speech was halted because of technical glitch with the teleprompter.

Bay came on stage saying, "My job as a director is that I get to dream for a living". Amidst the technical gaffe, he said he would be "winging" it. But even as he tried to continue, he became flustered, apologized to the audience and walked off the stage.

He explained himself on his blog, "Wow! I just embarrassed myself at CES - I was about to speak for Samsung for this awesome Curved 105-inch UHD TV. I rarely lend my name to any products, but this one is just stellar. I got so excited to talk, that I skipped over the Exec VP's intro line and then the teleprompter got lost. Then the prompter went up and down - then I walked off. I guess live shows aren't my thing."

Other notable happenings during the trade show are the major technology devices that were introdiced, as reported on TechRadar. Intel is into wearable technology, while Sony is unveiling Core, a microchip that can be worn in a number of ways and even as a Smartband. LG introduced it's 105-inch LED TV, including a curved 77-inch television.
