On Sunday afternoon, a man tossed his three-year-old son from the highest part of the South Park Tower, a 52-story Manhattan high-rise building and followed by jumping to his death soon after.

According to information published by the Associated Press via ABC, 35-year-old Dmitriy Kanarikov was involved in custody problems regarding his son Kirill Kanarikov and moments before handing his son to over the child's mother on Sunday, December 22, he decided to take his and his son's life by jumping off the building's top floor at around 12:05 p.m.

Authorities reported that the Ukrainian immigrant living in Brooklyn was declared dead at the scene of the crime, while little Krill, dressed in his pajamas and a jacket, died moments later at the St. Luke's-Roosevelt hospital.

In an interview with the New York Post, Luis Ortíz, a witness who saw the injured minor arrive at the hospital, said that paramedics attempted to revive the child and described the scene as "heartbreaking". However, their efforts were in vain and Kirill was declared dead.

The events took place a few months after Dmitriy posted pictures on Facebook of his family enjoying a day at the beach, saying that being the best father and husband was his biggest wish.

On the same social network, Svetlana Bukharina, the child's mother, shared images where she said she had the best husband and son in the world.

The source details that Svetlana Bukarina, a mathematician and violinist, and Dmitriy Kanarikov, financial worker for TIAA-CREF, got married four years ago; however, problems arose after some abuse and money issues.
