Paul Rudd will star as Ant-Man in Edgar Wright's upcoming adaptation.

Variety is reporting that comedian will play the lead role and is in early negotiations for the part. In the original comic book the character's alter-ego is Henry Pym, a brilliant scientist who invented a substance that allowed him to change his size and communicate with insects. However, there is no information about the plot of the film.

Director Edgar Wright is expected to focus on the later years of Ant-Man and add the character Scott Lang, a crook that steals Pym's technology and becomes the new Ant-Man.

The news comes as no surprise as Rudd was seen as a front-runner for the role. Rudd is best known for his work in "Role Models," "The 40 Year Old Virgin," and "I Love You Man." The actor was recently seen in the Tribeca Film Festival selection "All is Bright," the sequel to "Anchorman" entitled "Anchorman 2: the Legend Continues," and "This is the End." Rudd will next be seen in "They Came Together" with Cobie Smulders, Michael Shannon, Ed Helms, Amy Poehler and Melanie Lynskey.

Wright has directed several films including "The World's End," "Shaun of the Dead," "Hot Fuzz," " Scott Pilgram vs. The World" and "A FistFul of Fighters."

The "Ant-Man" is the latest Marvel franchise that will be brought to the screen. Some other Marvel superhero movies include the "Iron Man" trilogy, "The Avengers," "The Hulk," and "Thor."

"The Ant-man" will be produced by Kevin Feige and is scheduled for release in 2015.
