Veteran actors Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen have hinted that they may not be in the upcoming "X-Men Apocalypse."
During a conversation with The Wall Street Journal, the actors noted that they were not aware of the plans for "Apocalypse."
"I know nothing about it," said Stewart.
He then asked McKellen "Has anybody called you? Are you keeping something from me?"
McKellen responded, "No, I know nothing about it. Which probably means we're not in it."
It would not be surprising to see the two vets out of the series in the next episode. They were left out of "X-Men First Class" and the younger versions of their roles, Dr. Xavier and Magneto, were portrayed by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. McAvoy has already hinted that he would be involved in the film, while Fassbender has yet to comment; it is also possible that Fassbender may be out of the film as well due to the high demand for his work.
McKellen and Fassbender both portray the antagonist Magneto in the film, but McKellen noted that Fassbender has opted for his own interpretation of the character.
"I think he made it clear he wanted to be his own Magneto, and that suits the nature of the story and his part in it," said McKellen. The actor revealed that he never actually gets a chance to see or interact with his younger version the way that Stewart and McAvoy do.
"I just stay by myself and I never meet my younger self," the actor stated.
"X-Men Days of Future Past" hits theaters on May 22 in Australia and in the U.K. and on May 23, 2014 in the U.S.
