Jeremy Renner will appear in the upcoming "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

Yahoo reports that Renner has confirmed his participation despite previous complaints that his appearance in the first "Avengers" was unsubstantial.

"I prefer [playing the good version of the character], because if we go to the evil part, or hypnotized or whatever the heck you want to call it, it's kind of a vacancy. Not even a bad guy, because there's not really a consciousness to him," said Renner about the role in the first film, according to Classicalite

Renner's character Hawkeye was possessed for most of the film and was eventually thrown into the background during the final epic battle in the film; his dialogue was scarce compared to the other major characters and his overall importance to the film was minimal. It is easy to see why the actor, known for such major roles in "The Hurt Locker" and "American Hustle," would be uninterested in a role in the mega-blockbuster.

Fortunately, writer-director Joss Whedon recently revealed that he was working on creating a more substantial arc for the character and that he enjoyed fleshing out Hawkeye in the new installment.

"Part of the fun for me, definitely this time around, is writing Hawkeye. He did get possessed pretty early by a bad guy and had to walk around all scowly for most of the movie so now it's nice to actually have the character there and see him interact with the other guys," said the writer-director.

"The Avengers: Age of Ultron" will head into pre-production next summer and also features Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chris Hemsworth, Elizabeth Olsen, James Spader, and Chris Evans.
