Showtime's "Homeland" has set a new record for the series, with a total of 2.9 million viewers - that's 27 percent more than the last year's season ender, according to CNN.
Showtime's top-rated show now has over seven million viewers per week, surpassing previous record holder, "Dexter".
For those who did not watch the series finale, the show said goodbye to its leading man, Brody, and the show gave him a gut-wrenchingly sad send off - a bit audiences have been warned. According to showbiz411.com, the producers have hinted about his fate during July's Teen Choice Awards. Although some "Homeland" fans have been doubtful about his death, it has been confirmed that Brody is, in fact, gone for good.
In an interview with Damian Lewis, who played Brody in the series, he said that he took the news of his character's death "with a mixture of emotions."
Lewis told The New York Times, "I loved doing 'Homeland,' I loved playing Brody. I'm extremely proud of who we all created together," Lewis says. "I think he's a tragic hero for our time. He himself embodies a cautionary tale, going right back to the beginning, about sending young men to war and the damage it can do. He had brief moments of happiness and glory, but was essentially a very unhappy figure for three years. I enjoyed playing him, but I never expected him to last this long."
"Homeland" was renewed for another season, so the show will have more time to play out loose ends, but the finale leaves doubt for the show's casting.
So what's next for Homeland?
With Brody gone, Morgan Saylor and Morena Baccarin, who played his daughter and his wife, are downgraded from being regulars in the series. According to zap2it.com, it is also implied that Carrie Mathinson (Claire Danes) will be giving up Brody's child.
Season 4 will premiere sometime in 2014.
