After last week's discovery of a group of beached whales in the Everglades National Park, another eleven whales traveling in the same direction were found dead in the coasts of the Keys, in southern Florida, on Sunday, December 8.

According to first reports published by CNN, with this discovery, the number of dead whales found in Florida rises to 22.

The same source reports that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) emitted a press release saying that 29 more whales are still missing.

"Given our experience with beached whales, we believe that the possibility of finding the others alive is slim," wrote the institution, quoted by CNN.

Last Tuesday, December 5, a group of over 450 whales were found beached in shallow waters close to the Everglades National Park.

Of this initial group, six whales were found dead by rescue teams and four more had to be sacrificed owing to their injuries, reported El Nuevo Herald.

The whales managed to travel north, to deeper waters on Thursday 5, after receiving the help of rescue teams however, the US Coast Guard and NOAA estimate that the 11 whales found on Sunday belong to the first group.

According to Mexican website Sin Embargo, Blair Mase, spokesperson for the NOAA said that an autopsy will be carried out on the bodies of the whales to determine the causes of their deaths.
