BlackBerry's loss is Google's gain in the Spanish smartphone operating system market, according to new data.

According to Kantar Worldpanel, BlackBerry has lost its second place position in the smartphone operating system market share and ended at fourth place when comparing the three months ending in October 2012 and the same period this year.

BlackBerry previously accounted for 3.4 percent of the smartphone platform market share but lost exactly 3.4 percentage points during the three months ending in October 2013. As a result, BlackBerry accounted for 0.0 percent of the market share.

Meanwhile, Microsoft's Windows Phone and Apple's iOS tied for second place, but it may be the former that has the advantage.

Windows Phone and iOS represented 4.3 percent of the smartphone operating system market share in Spain, but it is the Microsoft platform that encountered the highest growth with 2 percentage points. For the three months ending in October 2012, Windows Phone accounted for 2.3 percent but hit 4.3 percent by the conclusion of October this year.

iOS grew its market share by 1.1 percentage points. The Apple's smartphone operating system previously accounted for 3.2 percent of the market share. If the growth continues, Microsoft could topple Apple in the next data released by Kantar Worldpanel.

Maintaining first place is Google's Android platform. Android encountered the highest percentage growth among the smartphone operating systems with 6.1 percentage points. With the percentage increase, Android accounted for 90.1 percent of the Spanish mobile platform market share. The Google smartphone operating system previously garnered 84 percent of the market share last year.
