A group of Georgia 'dreamers' asked authorities to grant them residency, according to the Associated Press.

The young students that entered the United States illegally when they were children are interested in continuing their studies but say they're not able to cover the expenses that Georgia universities require from people who aren't legal residents.

In a press conference, the young people shared their testimonies, and some that already have resident permits showed their support for undocumented immigrants.

"We're here to make a contribution to this country," said Miguel Ángel Martínez who entered the country illegally when he was 3 and who is currently studying to be a nurse or paramedic.

Immigrante TV explained that the group of 30 young people known as Dreamers is protected by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which grants a temporal residency permit to immigrants younger than 31 that arrived to the United States as children.

Authorities received the request from the lawyers that represent the young people and are analyzing the possibility of sending the case to the Superior Tribunal of Fulton county, since they consider it to be very complex and require more information.

The dreamers asked the judge to order the Board of Regents of Georgia's university system to grant them legal permits to be able to make more accessible payments for their studies.

Univisión highlighted that the students protected by DACA could receive a scholarship from the Hispanic Scholarship Fund thanks to the collaboration between the United States Citizen and Immigration Services (USCIS) and the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF).

Each year the foundation receives thousands of permits from which they select the students that meet all the requirements to support them in their studies with the cooperation of corporative partners and donations.

It's important that all interested students visit the Hispanic Scholarship Fund website before December 15 to request a scholarship.
