An armed group attacked a group of undocumented immigrants during their journey to the southern border of the United States on board the train known as "The Beast" in Mexico.

According to El Universal, 100 immigrants from various Central American countries like Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Belize were the victims of a criminal gang that robbed them of their belongings during their journey from Chiapas to Ixtepec City in Oaxaca.

"The Beast" had just passed Corazones Chahuites when it was stopped due to debris blocking the railway. In that moment, a group of 10 people armed with pistols and machetes boarded the train to rob the immigrants.

One of the immigrants that reported the event to authorities of the Regional Attorney of Justice and the Special Prosecutor for Immigrant Attention said the robbers jumped onto the train and took everything they had.

"They beat us and hit us with the machetes on the traincars, they pulled us out. They took everything, clothes, money, backpacks, shoes and left us in underwear," said the immigrant from El Salvador.

As El Universal notes, the immigrants reported that the robbers had a Mexican accent, and it is believed that the suspects are residents of Chahuites.

Priest Alejandro Solalinde Guerra, leader of the shelter in Ixtepec, welcomed the immigrants and asked authorities to carry out the corresponding investigations to find the criminal group. The priest pointed out that this isn't the first time there's been a massive robbery in the area, and accused the train drivers of plotting with the robbers.
