An official, reportedly from a local Apple supplier, in Korea stated, "Apple's local first-tier display supplier is now producing a 12.9-inch Retina Display to be used in the new iPad, which will be coming out sometime next year."

The "official" continued to note that a local manufacturer is "now" producing the larger tablets.

Apple is apparently increasing their interest in producing larger iPads due to the belief tablets will replace PCs in the future.

"The 12.9-inch iPad will have improved picture quality," said the source. "As the Apple partner intends to boost its lineup for displays that have almost ultra high-definition (UHD) quality, the upcoming iPad will provide very clear quality similar to that of UHD."

A nickname provided for the larger Apple tablets, as spotted on Digital Spy, is the "iPad Pro," which has a projected 2014 launch.

As with most rumors and speculation reports, Apple has not issued a comment on the latest tablet reports.

Samsung is also allegedly working to produce larger tablets. According to the Korea Display Industry Association, Samsung is developing OLED screens with 10 inches and 13 inches for the company's Galaxy brand.
