Ben Affleck admits that his Batman will not compete with Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight."
The actor told Playboy magazine that his Batman will redefine the character and that it will be an older version of the character than Nolan's interpretation.
He said, "I don't want to give away too much, but the idea for the new Batman is to redefine him in a way that doesn't compete with the Bale and Chris Nolan Batman but still exists within the Batman canon. It will be an older and wiser version, particularly as he relates to Henry Cavill's Superman character."
When asked about the hostile reaction, Affleck said he understood the reaction because of Daredevil. He said, "I understand I'm at a disadvantage with the internet. If I thought the result would be another Daredevil, I'd be out there picketing myself... Why would I make the movie if I didn't think it was going to be good and that I can be good in it?"
He added that the reason he decided to do the film was because of director Zack Snyder's take on the cape crusader. Affleck stated, "It was a unique take on Batman that was still consistent with the mythology. It made me excited. All of a sudden I had a reading of the character. When people see it, it will make more sense than it does now or even than it did to me initially."
"Batman vs. Superman" is currently in pre-production with production slated to begin next year. The film will star Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane and Laurence Fishburne. Snyder will direct with Deborah Snyder and Charles Roven producing the film.
Warner Bros. will distribute the movie in July of 2015.
