Golden Globe 2014 Predictions: Scarlet Johansson Ineligible for Best Supporting Actress

Scarlet Johansson will not compete for Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes.

Variety is reporting that the Hollywood Foreign Press deemed her voice performance ineligible for the new film "Her." The actress plays an electronic voice in the film named Samantha who becomes the love interest of Joaquin Phoenix's character, although she is never seen.

Johansson recently won the Best Actress award at the Rome Film Festival and is is receiving strong praise for her performance. 

However, Johansson is still eligible for her role in "Don Jon" and is likely to get nominated for the Best Comedy Actress award.

Spike Jonze's "Her" is still eligible for the Golden Globes, but it is unknown if it will compete for Comedy or Drama.

"Her" tells the story of a lonely writer who develops an unlikely relationship with his newly purchased operating system that's designed to meet his every need.

The film, which also stars Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde and Amy Adams, opened at the New York Film Festival to rave reviews with Scott Foundas from Variety writing, "Spike Jonze's singular, wryly funny, subtly profound consideration of our relationship to technology - and to each other."

The Golden Globes are known as important precursor awards that usually indicate Academy Award nominees. Previous winners include "The Artist," "Slumdog Millionaire," "Babel," "Argo," "The Social Network," "Avatar" and "Atonement.

The organization will announce their nominees on Dec. 12 after the Critics Choice Awards and New York Film Critics announce their nominees and awards.
