Russian soprano Anna Netrebko has announced her separation from Uruguayan bass-baritone Erwin Schrott.

During a press conference in Berlin for the upcoming new production of Verdi's "Il Trovatore," the singer told reporters that she was no longer in a relationship. She stated, "I think there is no relationship. But I'm very happy."

Tenor Placido Domingo who was also at the conference added, "She has a wonderful son, she has the music, and everyone loves [her]."

When asked about her upcoming role debut as Leonora, Netrebko said it was not easy, but it was going well. She stated, "The rehearsals are going very well, overwhelming, a very good pace."

She added, "Nothing is easy. It's probably one of the most demanding roles for sopranos. Beautiful, but it calls for a broad spectrum, from very high to very low notes, coloratura, dramatic, but it is a fantastic exciting role... "

She also spoke about the highly controversial Phillip Stolzl production and said it reminded her of "Alice in Wonderland." She said, "I love it. The costume is fine and reminds me of 'Alice in Wonderland.' His productions are so colorful and visually exciting to me. It is even better, because in recent times every production has black-white-red, only three colors at the opera. I'm a bit tired, I also want to try something different, even if it's completely crazy. But that also fits, because the libretto is really complicated, and the act is not so credible. Everyone dies at the end. Philipp Stölzl has done a very good job."

Schrott and Netrebko began a relationship in 2008 and have a son, Tiago. The couple toured the world with a number of concerts and staged operas. The two still have three performances together. They will sing Donizetti's "L'Elisir d'Amore" at the Metropolitan Opera and "Faust" at the Vienna State Opera House and Baden Baden.
