Singer and X Factor judge Demi Lovato discussed her trouble past and her first book "Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year", scheduled to hit stores this month, with US Weekly.

The 21-year-old star wasn't shy when talking about her demons, since she believes her story can help others going through the same as she did.

"I used to say that too," she told the magazine. "That was my excuse to do whatever the f*** I wanted and not give a s*** about what other people thought. Then I ended up going through some stuff. I realized I'm never going to escape the fact that I'm in the public eye, so I might as well do the best I can."

Last year, she opened up about her struggles during an interview with Fabolous Magazine. "It's something I don't really want to talk about," said the singer, as quoted by Huffington Post. "What I can say is that I was depressed. I would come off stage in front of 18,000 people and suddenly be alone in a hotel room. I'd come crashing down and would try to find a way to recreate that feeling, to stay 'up.'"

"When I was in treatment, I honestly thought my career was over," Lovato told US Weekly. "But when I came out of treatment, I had more supportive fans than ever"

The 21-year-old star also wants to release a memoir about her struggles with drug addiction and her time in rehab. "I'm battling with internal thoughts on how honest I should be," said the former Disney star. "Yes, I've been very honest, but if people really knew how dark and deep my struggles got -- not just with my eating disorder but with drugs and alcohol -- they'd be really shocked. But I'll most likely end up saying everything. Maybe it'll help other people in the industry who are headed down the wrong path."

Lovato also gave her thoughts on fellow Disney star Miley Cyrus. "She's having fun and figuring out who she is, and this is the age when that happens," she mused. "I think that... [long pause and a smile] she's doing her own thing. Good for her."
